- make balls of 2 double newspaper pages or use firelighters and place them in the bottom of the starter
- then place the starter upright on the grate
- fill the starter to the brim with charcoal or briquettes
- Light the newspaper with a long match through one of the ventilation holes at the bottom.
- Once the top layer of briquettes is covered with a layer of ash, you can shake the briquettes out of the starter into the BBQ
